BEST LINE: "You could've been a contender," as said to Brandon's character about his possibilities as a boxer. This coment about Brandon's character has a great concept that changes continuously, from the beginning of the movie to the very end.
WHAT DO I THINK: Great acting by Brandon (as always) supported by an amazing cast. Brandon portrayal of his character are both touching and human, one of the first American anti-heroes. There is a great fighting scene at the end that proves there are more ways to win a battle besides beating the crap of your oponent. The movie went to win 8 Oscars including best picture, director, suporting acctress (Saint) and even one for Brandon.
Kazan recieved an Achievement Award during the Oscars (1999). Because of his past, naming possible comunist during the forties or fifties (known as the Black List) some people were in disgust. The names included those of famous people from Holywood. At the ceremony, some people received him with a standing ovation. Others, like Nick Nolte, prefered to keep quiet. Kazan other works includes A Streetcar Named Desire, also starring Marlon Brandon.
