THE GRADUATE

CAST: Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft and Katherine Ross.

Directed by Mike Nichols

Written by Buck Henrry and Cader Willingham

Cinematography by Robert L. Surtees

Music by Paul Simons Art Garfunkel and Dave Grusin

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?: Hoffman plays the title character, Benjamin Baddrock, a shy college graduate that gets involved in an affair with the wife of a family's friend (Mrs Robinson, played by Bancroft). He then falls for Mrs. Robinson engaged daughter, Elaine. The final scene, in which Ben tries to get Elaine back is a clasic. It's safe to say that the scene is helped by Simon and Garfunkel's classic tune Mrs. Robinson playing in the background.

BEST LINE: Are you trying to seduce me Mrs Robinson?

WHAT DO I THINK: Great American comedy. What might be every boy's dream (a relation with an older, good looking woman) becomes a nightmare for young Benjamin. The final scene has a great touch. It's interesting to see this comedy transforming into a drama and ending as a tale of love-can-beat-anything.
